The first step to reviving the culture of Japanese umbrellas is to let more people know about the appeal of Japanese umbrellas. Minto, we regularly hold demonstrations and experience sessions on how to make Japanese umbrellas, called the "One Stitch, One Stretch, One Stitch" project.
It is said that there are about 20 to 100 steps involved in completing a Japanese umbrella. In this experience session, you can try out one of these steps - "one stitch of threading" (the final step of threading the inside of the umbrella, drawing the pattern by threading beautiful colored threads one stitch at a time). Of course, you can also just watch the craftsmen demonstrate the process.
